Every teen drama eat your heart out because Katy Keene is coming for the crown!
Katy Keene Official Extended Trailer | The CW
It’s a big call, we know, but the extended trailer for The CW’s new Archie Comics spin-off reveals exactly what all our streaming services have been missing.
We love Riverdale and adore 13 Reasons Why but let’s be real, there’s been a real lack of teen-drama that isn’t about murder, mystery and the ~supernatural~ since Pretty Little Liars and Gossip Girl.
The way things are going right now, our Netflix cue is going to be filled with Archie Comic spin-off shows Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa has brought to life, and we’re more than okay with that! Especially with the inclusion of Katy Keene.
“The #Riverdale universe expands! Thrilled to be bringing the adventures of Katy Keene and her New York pals to life! Extra-thrilled to be doing this with my pal Michael Grassi @thatthingofwhen! ❤️🧨💥💎💋💃🏻👠👛🧵👨🏻💻” Roberto tweeted, confirming the news of a new spin-off.
Now, here’s everything we know so far…
WHEN WILL IT AIR?
Katy Keene season one, episode one, will premiere on Thursday, February 6 at 8:30pm on FOX8 and will be available to stream On Demand.
ARCHIE IS HEADING TO NYC FROM RIVERDALE
If you’re up to date with your Riverdale/Katy news, then you’ll know that Ashleigh Murray (Josie) has left Riverdale to join the new show (more on that below).
Because of her transition, she will be having some old friends from Riverdale visit her in the big Apple. Including ex-boyfriend Archie Andrews (KJ Apa).
So how will it all tie in?
Katy Keene’s boyfriend in the show is a boxer, and executive producer Michael Grassi revealed at Tribeca TV Festival that viewers, “will definitely see someone from Riverdale and K.O. face off in the ring,” Deadline reports.
Since Archie has been a big part of Riverdale’s boxing story, we’re pretty sure that means he’ll be making his way over!
LUCY HALE IS KATY KEENE!!!
YAAAS! Lucy Hale has officially been cast as the lead, Katy Keene, TV Line reports.
So who IS Katy? Well, “bold, big hearted and independent, Katy Keene is a twenty-something New Yorker who aspires to be a fashion designer. When she’s not working as a personal shopper at a luxury department store, she’s navigating friendship and dating in the big city.”
We can definitely see Lucy pull off that role.
LUCY/KATY’S STORYLINE SEEMS ROMANTIC AF
New on set-photos of Lucy have emerged, showing her being proposed to!
Katy, sporting an adorable red ensemble, is stopped in her tracks on the street as boyfriend K.O. Kelly (played by Zane Holtz) proposes to her.
What a babe he is!
Speaking of on-set photos, more have come out proving that this show will probably feature some of the most adorable outfits we have ever seen.
ASHLEIGH MURRAY, AKA JOSIE MCCOY IS LEAVING RIVERDALE TO JOIN THE SHOW!
Yep! Our main Pussycat is hanging up her tail on Riverdale to pursue this new spin-off adventure.
According to TVLine, Ashleigh has been cast in the pilot, playing her role as Josie.
TVLine reports that the show will be about Katy, a character from the Archie Comics universe.
The show will follow Katy and her friends who are struggling to ~make it~ in New York City. One of these friends will be aforementioned Josie, who leaves Riverdale to move to NYC to in the hopes of making her musical dreams come true.
Go girl!
Per The Hollywood Reporter, some of Katy’s ‘friends’ may include Gloria Grandbilt (a rival of Katy’s), Lucki Lorelei, K.O. Kelly (one of Katy’s boyfriends), and Katy’s comic-book sister, Sis.
IT IS A MUSICAL!
Did we mention the show a musical! Well, a “musical dramedy,” as showrunners have dubbed it.
IT IS SET IN THE FUTURE
It will be set about five years in the future, which means Josie will be in her early twenties, not still in high school.
President of The CW, Mark Pedowitz explained to TVLine, “Katy Keene actually takes place years after Riverdale High School. So, at the moment, there are no plans to do crossovers. And, if any of those Riverdale characters should come to Katy Keene, they will come as an older self.”
Sounds epic!
