If you’re a fan of The CW’s Dynasty (who isn’t), then you will know it’s a remake of an old soap-opera.
While it has adapted to be more relevant, one key aspect they’ve kept from the original is that soapy-drama that we can’t help but love. Their classic recasting.
In the show, there have been two Cristal’s. Both of Hispanic descent.
We were absolutely shocked to see the death of original Cristal (Nathalie Kelley) in the first season, but she was quickly replaced by Ana Brenda Contreras.
Well, it looks like season three will see a third Cristal! Daniella Alonso.
WATCH Dynasty season two went out with a BANG:
We’re not sure how they’re going to spin this one, but sadly, it does mean that Ana Brenda Contreras will not be returning for the third season.
TVLine got an exclusive first look at new Cristal alongside Blake Carrington (he has a type, right?)
Daniella is, as expected, absolutely gorgeous. You may recognise her from Animal Kingdom, and Revolution.
Moving forward, the publication claims that new showrunner Josh Reims promises a “seamless transition.”
Not much will change for the character, however, he says she’s being written “a little more real and a little less scary, which is how we were writing Cristal last year. And Daniella is having a lot of fun. She got along with the cast immediately. She felt like she fit right away. Of course, we didn’t want Ana Brenda to leave, but that’s the situation.”
What we are wondering is how her new appearance will be addressed. Reims admitted, “I had to stop myself. I put in at least three jokes that sort of referenced the third time being the charm. Eventually, I was like, ‘I cannot write a joke for every scene she’s in. It’s out of control now.’”
Alexis’ (Nicollette Sheridan’s) whole ‘Fallon face surgery’ was ridiculous enough, so we don’t know if making Cristal’s replacement a joke would be too much for the show…
The CW revealed the show will be back on Friday, October 11 which likely translates to a Saturday, October 12 release for Netflix Australia.
Bring on the drama!
WATCH: Dynasty’s Alexis Carrington’s replacement was the biggest shock of season two. Behold, Liz Gillies as Alexis… no joke:
