Married At First Sight has been one of the most controversial reality shows on Aussie television in a long time.
With the basis of marriage, love and respect, most contestants have displayed cheating, greed and violence.
It’s been amazing to laugh at, but let’s be real, it can leave a dirty taste in your mouth from time to time.
However, in a report published by ABC, academics have said that the program can actually be a good way to set moral boundaries.
Senior lecturer at Deakin University, Dr. Patrick Stokes, says it’s “harmless” and may even be “positive”.
“There are probably better things to do with your time, but I think it’s mostly fairly harmless, to be honest.
“Any entertainment you engage with has a moral dimension. [For example] do you want to support the people involved?
He continued, “everyone needs entertainment and there is something positive about sitting down and watching something really mindless.”
Author Dr. Carroll Harris said viewers watching the show can benefit with their personal relationships.
“[Entertainment] is how we form ideas about our identity and what we want in our relationships,” she said.
Well, we didn’t expect that!
Happy MAFS viewing!
