Now this is some real Black Mirror sh*t.

MTV is premiering a new horror movie called Countdown, featuring Elizabeth Lail (You), Anne Winters (13 Reasons Why) and Peter Facinelli (Twilight)… about an App that predicts the day you die.

Would you download it?

In this day and age, we can assume that a lot of people would download this type of app.

“Apps keep track of our schedules, fitness, our love lives… but what if an app could tell you how long… before you die,” the trailer narrates.

“Would you want to know?”

WATCH: The horrific new trailer for ‘Countdown’ shows the scary way of the future… an app that predicts that day you die:

Our phones have become essential, but are they that essential?

Elizabeth Lail, who we know and love as Beck from You is back getting traumatised by technology. She really can’t catch a break.

In the trailer, she discovers that she only has two days left until she dies. That is when she starts becoming A) paranoid and B) wary about everything in her surroundings causing her imminent death.

The app seems to be a test on a persons’ psyche. If you ‘knew’ the day you were going to die, wouldn’t you become paranoid to the point of possibly (accidentally) dying?

The movie is like a modern-day version of Final Destination, a film franchise that follows a group of people who know that they are about to die, but don’t know how or when. It happens in freak accidents from getting accidentally locked in a tanning bed, or laser eye surgery going terribly wrong.

Basically, these are movies made to maximise our anxiety, and mission accomplished!!!

In Countdown, our main gal thinks she finds her way around ‘death’ when she comes to the realisation that maybe the app is just giving users a random number.

She tries to buy a new phone and re-download the app as a different user, however, the app automatically updates to her account.

If that isn’t some scary iCloud tracking FBI/CIA crap, we don’t know what is.

This movie hits way too close to home.

There is a very similar story told in a Black Mirror episode, “Hang the DJ”, where a dating app partners people together, and gives their relationship a ‘countdown’ (how fitting).

However, in a rare case of Black Mirror episodes, it ends on a happy note, with one couple continuing to find their way back to each other despite the app breaking them up time and time again.

Hopefully, this movie has a happy ending too, but with the look of these things popping up… we doubt it:
