The very first trailer for Five Feet Apart ft. Cole Sprouse and Haley Lu Richardson has finally arrived!!
Cole has a huge online following, so naturally, his fans have some thoughts about the upcoming film.
In it, Cole plays Will, while Haley plays Stella. The two teens meet in the hospital where they’re both being treated for cystic fibrosis.
Following a similar story-line to The Fault In Our Stars, they fall in love.
The pair has to remain six feet apart at all times to avoid cross-infection, with Stella explaining how hard it is. “I never understood the importance of touch until I couldn’t have it.”
Cole has spoken to Teen Vogue about the role, understanding how important it is to represent the character with this illness correctly.
“There are some roles that carry a real responsibility for accurate representation, this was one of them.”
Claire’s Place Foundation, a nonprofit org that works to raise awareness about cystic fibrosis, revealed that the cast and crew of the movie worked with them to represent the illness in an accurate way that reflects the real experiences of people with CF.
“Of course, we all understand that this is a tragic story and that people with cystic fibrosis must be very careful about contact precautions,” a Facebook post read. “As a public figure in the CF Community, Claire took that aspect very seriously. However, it’s a wonderfully well-written love story.”
Fans have expressed both their adoration for the upcoming film, and their concerns.
“One of my old best friends has cf so I really hope Five Feet Apart represents what the illness is. It’s so serious,” one person tweeted.
“Not all awareness is good awareness and, personally, Five Feet Apart is just another story in the long tradition of portraying terminal illness and disability by abled actors for the sake of making healthy people glad they’re not personally sick or disabled.”
