During Miley Cyrus and Cody Simpson’s Instagram Live video earlier this week, the singer made some controversial comments surrounding people’s choice to be gay, that rightfully upset those in the LGBTQ community.

During the video – in which she threw some SERIOUS shade at her ex-husband Liam Hemsworth – the proud feminist said: “I always thought I had to be gay because I just thought, like, all guys were evil, but it’s not true. There are good people out there that just happen to have d*cks. I’ve only ever met one…and he’s on this Live.”
Appearing on The Project last night, Cody has gone in on those who criticised his girlfriend, saying that people took her comments the wrong way.
“Yeah, she…. people took that the wrong way I think. Absolutely you don’t choose who you fall for or who you love, whatever gender or who you are.”
We can understand Cody defending his partner, but responsibilty needs to be taken here for the poor wording, because even if it’s not what Miley meant it undoubtedly hurt those in the LGBTQ community who look up to her as a proud queer person.
Miley also addressed her controversial comments, and her response (and lack of apology) has left fans a little underwhelmed.
“I was just talking sh*t about sucky guys”, Miley wrote on Twitter and Instagram.
“But let me be clear, YOU don’t CHOOSE your sexuality. You are born as you are. It has always been my priority to protect the LGBTQ community I am apart of. Happy Monday!”
Many people took to Twitter to call out the apology, with many saying it is not up to scratch considering the potential damage her comments caused.
While there was plenty of people who called out Miley on Twitter, there were some who came to the singer’s defence.
