Netflix has announced it plans to develop a new television series based on C.S Lewis’ beloved book series, The Chronicles of Narnia.
This marks the first time that rights to all seven books – which includes the incredibly popular, The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe – have been held by the same company.
The streaming company has revealed that it plans on creating multiple series and film-based projects from the novels.
“It is wonderful to know that folks from all over are looking forward to seeing more of Narnia, and that the advances in production and distribution technology have made it possible for us to make Narnian adventures come to life all over the world,” the authors stepson, Douglas Gresham, said in a statement released by Netflix.
“Netflix seems to be the very best medium with which to achieve this aim, and I am looking forward to working with them toward this goal.”
Of course, this isn’t the first time that the novels have been adapted. Disney previously made movie adaptations of three of the Narnia novels; The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, Prince Caspian and The Voyage of The Dawn Treader.
And, the books have sold more than 100 million copies worldwide, and been translated into more than 47 languages.
“C.S. Lewis’ beloved Chronicles Of Narnia stories have resonated with generations of readers around the world,” chief content officer at Netflix said.
“Families have fallen in love with characters like Aslan and the entire world of Narnia, and we’re thrilled to be their home for years to come.”
