It’s the regency romantic drama that took Netflix by storm. And also gave us quite the obsession with violin covers of modern day pop songs… Taylor Swift’s Wildest Dreams, we’re looking at you.
And the good news is, Bridgerton is back baby! Season two is headed for our screens and we are most excited.
WATCH: Bridgerton Cast On Edwina And Kate’s Relationship
The absolute chokehold that this show had on us over the 2020 new year is unmatched.
Regency drama mixed with Gossip Girl style mystery? Immediately yes.
So it’s really no surprise that everyone is wanting all the deets about the second season. What’s the plot? Who is starring? And, most importantly, when will it be released????
Here’s everything we know so far…
What is the plot of Bridgerton season 2?
While season one of the show followed the story of Daphne Bridgerton, played by Phoebe Dynevor, and her hot and heavy romance with the Duke of Hastings (Regé-Jean Page), this time around it’s Anthony Bridgerton’s (Jonathon Bailey) turn on the marriage market.
The eligible bachelor sets his sights on Edwina Sharma, but his plan is soon interrupted by her sister Kate.
Based on the best-selling novels by Julia Quinn, Bridgerton explores the lavish, sexy, and competitive world of Regency London high society, centred around the Bridgerton family.
And in true ✨ Gossip Girl meets Jane Austen ✨ fashion, a high society scandal sheet written by the anonymous Lady Whistledown sends chaos throughout Mayfair by spilling piping hot regency tea that threatens to defame the residents of the town.
In a trailer debuted on February 15th, Bridgerton fans got a further taste of what’s in store for the upcoming season, complete with the melodic voice over of Julie Andrews (who voices Lady Whistledown).
“As the members of our ton questioned my identity and means, this author has been doing but one thing… honing my skills,” she can be heard saying.
“No, even better, I’ve been sharpening my knives… for all of you.”
The trailer also shows glimpses of the new season, including members of the ton greedily pouring over Lady Whistledown’s scandal sheets, scenes from lavish balls and the Royal Ascot race day, as well as sword and gun fights.
In January, Netflix also released some new look photos of the brand new season. Take a look.
Who is the cast of Bridgerton season 2?
It seems that most of the original cast will return to the show, apart from Regé-Jean Page who saddened fans when he announced he was leaving. The actor justified his decision to Variety, saying his story felt like “a one-season arc”.
Also joining the cast are Sex Education’s Simone Ashley who will play Kate Sharma, Charithra Chandran as Edwina Sharma, Shelley Conn as Mary Sharma, Calam Lynch as Theo Sharpe, and Rupert Young as Jack.
When will Bridgerton season 2 be released in Australia?
Fans got their first sneak peek of the brand new season back in September last year, and filming officially wrapped in November. But the show’s expected to hit screens on March 25th 2022.
And you can bet we’ll be watching as closely as Lady Whistledown.
