Ariana Grande is often flaunting her beautiful family off on social media, like her mother, nonna and brother. However, fans often wonder who her father is, and what their relationship is like.
In Ariana’s new song, “thank u, next” she includes a line about her father, Edward Butera, which got fans thinking.
“One day I’ll walk down the aisle / holding hands with my mama / I’ll be thanking my dad / ’cause she grew from the drama”
While the song is clearly thanking her various exes for what they’ve taught her about love, the line regarding her father suggests that he has hurt her and her mother in the past.
In fact, Ariana has previously spoken about having to cut ties with her father.
Speaking to Seventeen in 2014, she admitted to “falling out of touch” with Edward. She said, “Falling out of touch with my dad [was the toughest thing I’ve ever dealt with]. It’s private, but it happened last year. It took me so long to be okay with it.”
While she doesn’t go into detail about what actually happened, she does explain how she has come to terms with it.
“So much of me comes from my father, and for so long, I didn’t like that about myself. I had to accept that it’s okay to not get along with somebody and still love them.”
