WTF?! Disney’s Live-Action ‘Mulan’ Might Not Even Be A Musical!

Um, excuse me?!

If you were looking forward to Disney’s live-action Mulan remake, your dreams may have just been crushed.

It’s still early days but it sounds like we’re going to be robbed of one of the best parts of a Disney reboot: hearing a whole new spin on our fave classic songs!

Yup, unlike Beauty and the Beast and the upcoming Aladdin, the classic Chinese legend *might* not even be a musical!

Sean Bailey, the president of Motion Picture Production at Walt Disney Studios, dished to Vulture: “Mulan is clearly an empowered-female story but we can also do something new in this reimagining, make it a little more muscular, stronger, with touch of Ridley Scott.”

Apparently sources close to the project reckon the movie “is not expected to prominently feature songs,” but they say that could change throughout filming. We can’t even imagine Mulan without ‘Reflection’ or ‘I’ll Make a Man Out Of You’!

Meanwhile in other (happier) Mulan news, the China Film Insider, says 22-year-old Aussie actress Natasha Liu Bordizzo will be playing the lead role in the remake!

Not only is Natasha a black belt in taekwondo AND trained in kempo karate, but she also recently starred as a warrior in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny, so sounds like she’s kinda perfect!

Apparently, Disney have already chosen her to play Mulan in the movie (which doesn’t come out until 2018) but they’re trying to keep it all on the DL.

Disney had previously said they would chose an actress with Chinese heritage so of course the haters are already coming out in full force. Since the Sydney-born babe is half Chinese and half Italian, they reckon the role shouldn’t go to her.

Let us know what you think about Mulan potentially not being a musical and if you think Natasha is the right choice for the lead role.
