Pedestrian reports that Unicode (the emoji creators) have submitted a proposal for reversed emojis to be introduced to devices in the new year.
What this means is that we'll have access to the reversed versions of already existing emojis.
This won't be possible for all emojis, of course. The upside down smiley face was creepy enough!
But some of the people, inanimate object and vehicle emojis will be featured in reverse.
Here's one we prepared earlier...
Emojipedia reports that this feature has been in popular demand for a while now and they finally hope to unleash it on the world.
“Emoji with glyphs that face to the right or left may face either direction, according to vendor preference,” the Unicode proposal reads.
“However, that can cause a definite change in meaning when exchanging text across platforms. The following ZWJ mechanism can be used to pick an explicit direction.”
It will be decided if the proposal will go ahead in January next year during the Unicode Technical Meeting and if approved, we should have them by the end of 2018.
Make. It. Happen!
