The Grammy Award winner received an MBE, signifying his membership of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire in recognition of his services to music and charity.
Prince Charles undertook the honour on behalf of his mother, Queen Elizabeth. While the "Shape Of You" singer was not made a “Sir” (or knight), so the official ceremony did not include the traditional sword tap on the shoulder.
Following the event, the 26-year-old told reporters that his grandfather was a fan of the monarchy and believed he would be proud of his grandson for receiving the astounding honour.
The star also took to Instagram to share a snap with his badge of honour in hand and captioned the picture: "Honoured to be awarded an MBE today at Buckingham Palace x."
