You’re about to launch your debut album… how are you feeling finally being able to release it to the world after such a huge build-up?!
I’m so excited that my album’s going to be out so soon, and I just can’t wait! I’ve got lots of mixed emotions and lots of butterflies and I just can’t wait for everyone to hear it and see what they think.
You described your album as ‘dark pop’ – what do you mean by that?
A lot of my influences for my music comes from sadness, and those are the things that linger the longest. I think that darker element is the juxtaposition to the pop music that I make.
What are your favourite tracks we can keep a listen out for on it?
I don’t have a favourite track on the album because they’re all so special to me, but I’ve just been in rehearsals and practicing some new songs, and I can’t wait for you all to hear ‘Begging’ and ‘IDGAF’ and ‘New Rules’.
You used to cover Christina Aguilera and Nelly Furtado, would you say your album was inspired by their sound?
My album’s been inspired by so many different types of music that I’ve listened to over the past few year. There’s definitely influences from Christina and Nelly Furtado, but it’s a lot of everything that inspires me every day.
You’re supporting Bruno Mars while you’re down under! Are you a big fan of his music? Has he been in touch about your tour yet or shared any words of wisdom?
I’m really excited to perform with and share a stage with Bruno Mars! He’s an artist I really admire. I remember watching him perform at Coco in Camden, and that’s one of my favourite memories. I just can’t wait. But we haven’t met yet, so I’ll let you know what he says when I do see him!
