According to TMZ, he was found by police on Monday after sustaining a self-inflicted gunshot wound and the coroner has ruled his death a suicide.
Michael is mostly known for playing real-life Olympic star Jack O'Callahan in Miracle, the 2004 sports film about the 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team's victory over the Soviet Union team.
He went on to star in a movie called Dirtbags and Matthew McConaughey's Surfer, Dude before quitting acting to join the army, ending up in the Special Forces.
Army First Special Forces unit commander Col. Guillaume Beaurpere released a statement about the sad news, saying: "Those of you that knew Mike will remember him for his passionate love for his family and his commitment to the health of the force."
Michael leaves behind his father, three sisters, wife, Kati, and two children: daughter Ava and son Leo, according to Deadline.
So sad. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.
