Well, let us explain.
Last night, Twitter user @motivatefenty brought out some pretty disturbing receipts that exposed Camila's Tumblr page back when she was 15.
Camila's now-deleted page "vous-etess-belle", featured numerous racist and xenophobic posts.
On the Tumblr page, Camila uses the N-word in text posts multiple times, as well as reblogging images that depict Asian and black people in negative stereotypes.
In one deeply distressing post, Camila reblogged an image that poked fun at Rihanna's domestic abuse case against Chris Brown.
Content Warning: The below images found on Camila's Tumblr page are racist deeply upsetting.
Camila has confirmed in the past that the "vous-etess-belle" Tumblr page was her own, and also had an old picture of herself as her icon and posted a picture of herself for an anonymous user. According to Cosmopolitan magazine, Camila also personally confirmed the account was hers after a fan asked her directly.
How the page managed to stay up this long is surprising, but we do know that as soon as the Twitter thread exposed the disturbing images it was deleted.
Camila has since posted a lengthy apology on Instagram admitting her ignorance.
Here is Camila's apology in full:
"When I was younger, I used language that I’m deeply ashamed of and will regret forever. I was uneducated and ignorant and once I became aware of the history and weight and the true meaning behind this horrible and hurtful language, I was deeply embarrassed I ever used it. I apologized then and I apologize again now. I would never intentionally hurt anyone and I regret it from the bottom of my heart. As much as I wish I could, I can’t go back in time and change the things I said in the past. But once you know better, you do better and that’s all I can do.
"I’m 22 now. I’m an adult and I’ve grown and learned and am conscious and aware of the history and the pain it carries in a way I wasn’t before. Those mistakes don’t represent the person I am or a person I’ve ever been. I only stand and have ever stood for love and inclusivity, and my heart has never, even then, had any ounce of hate or divisiveness. The truth is i was embarrassingly ignorant and unaware. I use my platform to speak out about injustice and inequality and I’ll continue doing that. I can’t say enough how deeply sorry and ashamed I feel, and I apologize again from the bottom of my heart."
