Glowy skin, natural brows and glossy lips are all the rage, especially as warmer weather approaches in Australia.
We’re totally on board with this new wave of low-key beauty, but how exactly do you achieve a genuine natural makeup look?
Well, we’ve done some digging and discovered the five biggest tips to perfect your flawless natural makeup look. And no, having perfect skin already isn’t a requirement to embrace these natural beauty looks.
Plus, with millions of Aussie girls still in lockdown, you’ll have plenty of time to practice your new skills.
Keep scrolling to learn exactly how to apply natural makeup before coming out of lockdown and stepping into spring.
Spot-conceal instead of using foundation
TikTok makeup trends have really shown that full faces of foundation are out and natural, glowy skin is in.
To really embrace the skin you’re in, try using just a little bit of concealer in the spots you want it rather than packing on full-coverage foundation.
After applying a moisturiser or hydrating primer, dot your concealer onto any blemishes, redness, dark circles or other places you’d like a bit of coverage.

You can also apply a dot at the inner and outer corners of your eyes, as well as the corners of your mouth and blend upwards to create a slightly lifted look.
Don’t cover things like freckles and little moles – let your natural skin shine through!
To set your concealer, simply dab a little powder over the spots where you’ve applied product.

Perfect your natural brow technique
Full, fluffy brows are all the rage right now, which is lucky given so many of us can’t make it to the salon in lockdown.
Benefit brow expert Samantha Tonkin tells Girlfriend the perfecting a natural brow starts with maintaining, well, your natural brows.
“Don’t get too confident with those tweezers,” she explains.
With many of us stuck in lockdown and unable to go to our regular brow appointments, she suggests avoiding any major DIY brow tweezing.
Instead, focus on embracing the natural, fluffy brows that are so popular on TikTok.
“When actually filling in the brow, be fairly light handed (you can always add more). You want to ensure that you can still see pops of skin through the brows,” she says.
“Use a brow pen or pencil a shade best matched to your brow hair and create fine strokes (only in gappy areas) following the direction that your brow hair grows in.
“In a shade or two lighter, use a pencil to create shadow throughout the entire brow, before adding a brow gel to give the hairs a finished and volumised look.”

Embrace a glossy lip
Say goodbye to the matte liquid lipsticks of the 2010s – glossy lips are the new trend dominating the beauty world.
They go perfectly with a natural makeup look or a completely bare face and really enhance your natural beauty.
Plus, the shinier the gloss, the plumper it will make your lips look without the need for any cosmetic injections.
Opt for a clear gloss if you want to keep things super low-key, or pick a nude or pink shade close to your natural lip shade for some added colour.
Hydrating lip balms are great options too, plus they tend not to be as stick as some gloss products.

Make the most of cream products
TikTok makeup lovers have been really embracing cream products in their natural makeup tutorials, especially cream blush, bronzer and highlight.
Cream products can create a more natural finish than powders, as they tend to melt into your skin rather than sitting on top of it.
That means a more hydrated, glowy look that’s perfect for spring and summer.
Blend cream bronzer across your cheekbones and the edge of your face for a naturally sun-kissed look.
Add some cream blush to the high points of your cheeks and even across the bridge of your nose for the flushed look that’s so on trend right now.
Make sure not to go overboard with cream highlight, just applying it to the high points of your cheeks and other places the sun would naturally hit. Stick to gold and neutral hues for a more natural look.

Prioritise your skincare
Your skin doesn’t have to be perfect or blemish-free to suit a natural makeup look, but you do want to look after it.
Focus on nourishing and moisturising ingredients in your skincare routine and make sure to apply SPF every day for sun protection.
“You don’t need a million steps in your skincare,” skincare expert Vicki Engsall, co-founder of The Jojoba Company, previously told Girlfriend.
She says to focus on cleansing your skin to remove dirt, applying a nourishing facial oil and then sealing it all in with moisturiser every day.
If you do have more severe skincare concerns, chat with your GP or a dermatologist about what products are right for your skin.
