We absolutely adore Riverdale for the show it is, but if there’s one thing we love most it’s the cast.
Mainly because they’re so damn candid with their fans about how normal they are.
Newsflash: they get acne too! And they’re happy to open up and offer advice.
Madelaine Petsch recently sat down with Glamour, talking about her skincare routine, and the struggles she dealt with coming onto the biggest show ever while suffering from cystic acne.
First up, she revealed her daily skincare routine.
“I’m all about consistency, so I wash my face with Bioré’s Baking Soda Acne Cleansing Foam. It has a citrusy scent, so it actually wakes up my nose and my eyes. It feels like it tightens my pores and gets me primed for makeup. I leave one in the makeup trailer, and I do the same thing when I get there. I double-cleanse in the morning, and triple-cleanse at night.”
YES, TRIPLE-CLEANSE!
“I know. I sound like a crazy person, but only when I work on Riverdale, because I have so much makeup on. I think people don’t realise that when you wash your face one time, you still have so much makeup in your pores. I do a second swipe, and I’m disgusted.”
When she first came into the show, she had break outs on her forehead, which made her feel pretty low.
“I used to have cystic acne on my forehead, in season one. I’m not ashamed of it at all; it’s just the reality of the situation. Then I started looking at what was going on with my skin, and my makeup artist told me I have to be double- or triple-cleansing my face every night. They just put so much makeup on, especially on my character.”
“I wasn’t that confident at first because I’d be on camera and [the crew] would say, “Don’t worry, we can light it.” And I would think, Oh great, it’s that bad? I struggled with that all of last year, but this year I’m really drinking a lot of water. I’m also way happier. I was happy season one but really stressed. It was my first show, and I wanted to make sure everything was perfect. I’m very type-A.”
