Unless you happen to have the steady hand of a surgeon, most of us can relate to being late to an event because we were trying to perfect our winged liner.
But while most of us simply whinge to our squad about it (or throw a mini tantrum in our bedrooms!), Iris Smit is one innovative lady who actually came up with a solution.
On the latest episode of Girlfriend’s Beauty Boss podcast, Iris shared how she came up with the idea behind Quick Flick at just 21 years of age.
“I started working on when I was actually still studying at uni, crazily enough and it was pretty much because I was constantly late to everything in my life because I just couldn’t get my winged eyeliner to work,” she said.
“I was just fed up and I was like, this is the 21st century, there’s got to be some product out there that makes this easier.”
Iris tried out the products on the market that claimed to help with winged liner, but none of them did the trick.
So, noticing a gap in the market, she decided to create her own!
Pouring $10,000 of her own money into the project, Iris set about creating Quick Flick, an eyeliner set with a stamp to perfect the flick.
She quickly built up a loyal customer base, before pitching her business to investors on national TV on Shark Tank.
Iris secured $300,000 of investment from the show, which helped her scale Quick Flick into a multi-million dollar empire.
Now, at age 23, she’s just started her second innovative beauty business — a Beauty Fridge to help keep natural skincare products fresh.
Seriously, could this girl be any more inspiring?
