So, if you’ve got biiiiig goals in life and the people around you don’t support or motivate you, it can kinda drag you down.

Aussie beauty entrepreneur Iris Smit is someone who’s experienced this first hand. She started her multi-million dollar business Quick Flick while still at uni and at age 23, recently started her second, The Beauty Fridge.

In the latest episode of Girlfriend’s Beauty Boss podcast, she shared that she had recently been forced to reevaluate the people she surrounds herself with.

“I feel like I’ve completely changed the circle of people who I’m around and I recently split up from my partner, but I think it was a real filtration process of people who didn’t really have the best intentions in my life.” she told hosts Jacqui and Alana.

“And I feel like sometimes, even though people might be our friends and even family, sometimes they want you to be successful, but as soon as you start being more successful than them, it becomes a problem.”

Iris noticed that the more her career took off, the more she questioned some of her relationships.

“I noticed that a lot with people around me that they’ll kind of happy for me, but when it started getting to this bigger point, it almost turned the happiness turned to jealousy.

So, what’s Iris’ advice for dealing with this?

“I think be really careful about who you surround yourself,” she says.

“So really making sure you have that strong support network to support you throughout your business journey is critical and it can really make or break you as a person as well.”
