After all, who wouldn’t want to try out and write about beauty products for living!?

But just because it’s tough to break into, doesn’t mean it’s impossible.

Just ask Gemma Watts, a beauty editor, podcaster, photographer and MC who’s absolutely killing it in the industry.

After leaving her job as a fashion editor, Gemma started the Glow Journal which is now a bonafide beauty empire with a blog, creative studio and podcast.

On the latest episode of The Beauty Boss, Gemma shares her top tips for breaking into the industry.

“I think the biggest thing for me —and I think it’s probably true across all industries — is to just start working as soon as you can,” she says.

“You need to build up a portfolio. A blog is great just so you’ve got something to show prospective employers.”

Gemma says that the first step to landing that dream job is just putting yourself out there.

“I’m a big fan of the cold email,” she says. “If you want to get work published, show them some examples of work and just put yourself out there because you have absolutely nothing to lose.”
