The star will be bringing one lucky lady to a romantic overnight retreat in next week's episode, reports OK! Magazine. And if that's not exciting enough for you, it will apparently be the second date for this contestant!
In the US version (and most other versions around the globe... get it together, Australia) the Bachelor or Bachelorette has the opportunity to bring the top three contestants for a romantic evening in the fantasy suite, where there are no cameras. It will also allow Matty and his date to speak candidly without a team of producers sitting in the corner.
While Matty's retreat doesn't follow the traditional 'fantasy suite' format, we're still loving the new addition!
Tim Robards famously declined the option for a fantasy suite in Australia's first ever season, and the option was never offered on-screen again.
"I think I did the guys in because I was the first one to say ‘no overnight dates’ and they followed suit so I think I’ve screwed it up for everyone,” he told The Daily Telegraph last year.
Tim thinks he messed it up for everyone else and we have to agree with him there. Whatever the contestants choose to do (or not do) behind closed doors is up to them, but we wish they had the option. Let's be honest, the aftermath would make for far better TV than the faux feuds and manufactured drama.
At least we're getting one step closer with Matty J, and whichever mystery gal he chooses. We can't wait to see how this one pans out!
