The product in question is Johnson & Johnsons's Baby Powder, which is formulated with the ingredient talc.
The ingredient is a mineral powder made from magnesium, silicon, hydrogen and oxygen... which is found in regular face and eye powders anyway, but it's considered dangerous when the mineral isn't properly purified. It contains asbestos, which is a known carcinogen.
Wow.
According to Associated Press, this case is the largest settlement from a series of familiar lawsuits against the company. They also own brands such as Aveno, Clean & Clear and Neutrogena.
Spokeswoman for the company Carol Goodrich has said in a statement that, "We are preparing for additional trials this year and will continue to defend the safety of Johnson's Baby Powder."
