She has been in a lot of hot water recently for appropriating black and Japanese culture, and now, the LGBTQ community aren't too pleased with her, after she supposedly appropriated queer identity.
In Ariana's latest music video for new song "Break Up with Your Girlfriend, I'm Bored," she is seen admiring a boy (Charles Melton) from across the room, seemingly thinking about how unfair it is that he has a girlfriend (who is identical to Ari, btw).
"You could say I'm hatin' if you want to / But I only hate on her 'cause I want you," Ariana sings.
Throughout the video, she is seen flirting with the couple, touching the girlfriend and eyeing Charles while walking around the party.
At the end, the trio get in the pool together, and while we expect to see Ariana kiss Charles, she instead leans in to kiss the other girl instead.
Many fans even celebrated this moment, wondering if it was Ariana's way of coming out.
It was even exciting for some LGBTQ fans to see representation on-screen, however, Ariana has received a lot of backlash for 'queer-baiting'.
The threesome imagery is also something that queer women had to deal with for a long time... on the premise that Ariana is flirting with a girl to get a male's attention... making queerness seem like it's only something for men to enjoy.
Another theory altogether claims that the video is about self-love, and kissing the girl who looks exactly like Ariana was her way of saying she's working on herself rather than chasing boys.
How do you interpret it??
