HUGE news.
Just a little FYI for those who don't know, the Russo brothers are the dream team behind Avengers: Endgame, but rest assured this latest project called Cherry has nothing to do with the Marvel universe.
Cherry is based on the semi-autobiographical 2018 book, which follows an Army medic returning to his home in Ohio with undiagnosed PTSD from the war in Iraq. He later descends into addiction and robs banks.
So not a light and fluffy action flick, then.
Chatting on the panel at San Diego Comic-Con, Joe Russo gave us juicy details about Cherry: "It's a story about drug addiction and the opioid crisis. It’s touched us both, it’s a deeply personal movie for us.
"The gent who wrote the book went through the same growth arc in the same part of the city we grew up in — but different experiences."
Anthony Russo then confessed that the film may not be suitable for all Marvel fans: "It doesn’t have the surface-level entertainment as Marvel films, but these are stories that need to be told, and Joe and I are in that position to get these stories made."
