Throughout all this, Lili Reinhart's been a lil beacon of positivity. The actress opened up her platform to highlight Black voices, including having her former co-star Asha Bromfield on to dig into Riverdale's shortcomings when it comes to race.
Now, patient fans of the show have something else to thank her for, an update on the long-awaited season five of Riverdale.
Speaking with Jimmy Fallon, Reinhart shared some major updates and confirmations.
"We're about to go back in a couple of days to start—well, I have to quarantine for two weeks—but then we're starting our season five," she told Fallon during an appearance on The Tonight Show. As well as getting into season five, the cast and crew will also have to wrap up the end of season four.
According to Reinhart, they have "two-and-a-half episodes left," due to stopping so suddenly. "So when we go back, we have to finish three days of one episode that we were filming in March."
Back in May the show’s executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa confirmed the rumours that there would, in fact, be a time skip in Riverdale's fifth season. (At the time he mentioned a five year jump.)
Now, Reinhart's confirmed that the jump will be even bigger than we initially thought! "Season five we're actually doing, I believe, a seven-year time jump into the future so we're not going to be teenagers anymore," she shared. "I'm really psyched about it. I think it'll be nice to play an adult. But I also really appreciate that Roberto, our showrunner, was like, 'Yeah, let's revamp.' You know, we're not just stuck in high school for seven seasons."
The time jump will put the main four characters at around 25 years old. A Riverdale time skip is a move that makes a lot of sense, mainly for keeping the main cast, Jughead, Betty, Archie and Veronica, respectively played by Cole Sprouse, Lili Reinhart, Camila Mendes and KJ Apa together instead of alone as they head off to separate colleges. Or in Archie’s case, enroll in the naval academy.
As yet, a release date for season five hasn't been announced, but we'll keep you posted.
