Katy Perry however, didn't have that on her mind when she posted a photo of the powerful goddess Kali dancing on Lord Shiva (a traditional image of two Hindu gods).
Captioning the image, "current mood," she has received a lot of backlash from people.
"Don't make fun of gods."
"Clearly you just post things without understanding or knowing what it is. This is ignorance at its best. If you have respect for other religions, take this town."
"Are you serious? You're using pics of our Goddesses as memes?"
"I get racist sh*t said at me all the time so I think I'm alright in saying she doesn't have the ability to mock many Indian's beliefs. I may be wrong to many of you who think this is a light matter but what of the amount of culture people are mimicking without a single ounce of knowledge... If we respect her religion then she should at least understand ours."
Damn, we doubt Katy expected this sort of response.
It's understandable why fans aren't happy with the way Katy depicted their religion, especially since Katy doesn't practice Hindu.
One celebrity who did post a Hindu photo on Instagram and got it right was Miley Cyrus, who posted a pic of her celebrating a Hindu holiday by performing Lakshimi Puja, which fans praised as it was an appropriate representation of the religion.
Katy has yet to respond to the backlash.
