Disney has announced their full movie release schedule all the way up until 2020, including everyone's fave animated lion classic which drops on July 19th, 2019! Director Jon Favreau also shared the exciting news on Twitter.
Ok so that's more than two years away but at least we'll get Mulan in 2018.
So who have we got to look forward to seeing in The Lion King?? First up, Jon confirmed back in February that actor/rapper Donald Glover aka Childish Gambino will be voicing Simba. Whether you know him for his music or his roles on Community or Atlanta, he's obviously the perfect choice!
Even though it hasn't been officially confirmed yet, The Hollywood Reporter and The Wire are reporting that comedic geniuses Seth Rogen and Billy Eichner are in "final negotiations" to play Pumba and Timon respectively!
If Seth's roles in hilarious movies like Knocked Up and Bad Neighbours haven't prepared him to voice the cutest goofy warthog ever, we don't know what will!
And if you've seen Billy on the Street, you'll know Billy was made to play the sarcastic and sassy yet loveable meerkat.
James Earl Jones, who voiced Mufasa in the original 1994 film, was one of the first actors to be announced to be joining the remake in February. Was there really any other choice? #legend
And finally, Nala. Initially, Beyoncé was rumoured to be taking the role but she's reportedly reluctant to sign on to the project becasue of her pregnancy. Now, Bey's biggest fan, Zendaya, is apparently the frontrunner and there's plenty of proof too!
It all started when she posted this short clip of her out on a hike holding up her puppy Noon Pride Rock-style, which she captioned "Noony King."
And just a few days ago, Zendaya hinted that she was catching up with some big wigs at Disney, writing: "Meetings at Disney be like..."
All signs point to Nala.
So, who's pumped for The Lion King remake?? And let us know what you think of the casting so far.
