Now, there's a clue that's been picked up by Buzzfeed from Tumblr user itsnotaboutangxls that we probably all missed during the montage of Clay picturing his life as Hannah Baker's boyfriend.
You know, the scene that made us all cry.
The song playing during the scene is A 1000 Times, by Hamilton Leithauser + Rostam. Some of the songs lyrics are: "The 10th of November, the year's almost over | If I had your number, I'd call you tomorrow | If my eyes were open, I'd be kicking the doors in | But all that I have is this old dream I've always had."
Not only do those lyrics paint a clear picture of what Clay must be feeling, but the date of November 10 is the same date shown on the video interviews that students had during their subpoenas.
Woah.
Now that it's been pointed out, it seems glaringly obvious rather than a simple coincidence.
Dylan Minnette who plays Clay Jensen even revealed in an interview that the music was a "huge part" of the show.
"I had a dialogue with [showrunner] Brian [Yorkey] from the get-go about what songs should be on the soundtrack," he said. "I wanted to make sure it all felt very real, and I wanted the vibe to be appropriate."
It's not the first theory fans have picked up on surrounding the date stamp either, with someone suggesting that it being set in November 10, 2017 (the future) to reiterate the show's message that something can always be done, and we still have time.
Deep.
